What are the required travel documents?

Passport: Ensure your passport has a minimum of six months validity from the date of travel. Malaysian passport holders do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days.
Travel Insurance: It is recommended to have travel insurance.
Flight E-Ticket: Keep a printed copy of your flight e-ticket.

What currency should I use in Turkiye

Currency: The Turkish Lira (TL) is used in Turkiye.
Currency Exchange: It is advisable to convert Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) to USD/Euro and then exchange it to Turkish Lira upon arrival in Istanbul.
ATM Use: If you plan to withdraw money in Turkiye, ensure your debit card's international transaction option is activated.

What baggage am I allowed to bring?

Check-in Baggage: 23 kg is allowed for check-in.
Cabin Baggage: 7 kg is allowed as carry-on baggage.

Can I bring my own food and medicine?

Food: You can bring dry, sealed Malaysian foods such as canned sardines, instant rice, and Maggi packets. Make sure the food is easy to bring into Turkiye.

What type of shoes should I wear?

Recommended Footwear: Sneakers, sports shoes, or any closed-toe comfortable shoes are recommended due to extensive walking. Avoid high heels and boots.

What is the weather like, and what clothing should I bring?

Weather: Expect summer to autumn temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C, with hot, dry days and windy nights.
Clothing: Bring comfortable clothing suitable for warm weather, and consider packing sunscreen (SPF 50) to protect against the sun.

What electronic equipment should I bring?

Adapter: Bring a travel adapter compatible with Type C sockets.
Powerbank: A small powerbank for daily use is recommended.

How do I manage internet and transportation?

Roaming: You can use your existing data plan with international roaming. 5GB should be sufficient for 8 days.
Taxi Apps: Taxis in Turkiye prefer cash payments, so have enough cash ready. Use taxi apps to navigate the city.

What are the prayer times in Istanbul?

Prayer Times: Ensure to check the local prayer times and plan your schedule accordingly.

Are there any restrictions on toiletries?

Liquids: Liquids over 100ml are not allowed in hand carry-on. Pack these in your checked baggage.

Prohibited Items: Sharp objects, explosives, and dangerous weapons are not allowed. It is also illegal to curse Ataturk in public, which can result in imprisonment.

Respectful Behaviour: Do not cross roads recklessly, don’t use offensive language, and avoid showing large amounts of cash in public.
Street Scams: Be cautious of strangers asking to see Malaysian money or inviting you for a drink, as these may be scams.

Food on Public Transport: Avoid consuming Malaysian food with strong odors on public transport, as locals may be sensitive to it.

How can I use public transport in Istanbul, and what are the payment methods?

Using Public Transport: Istanbul has an extensive public transport system, including buses, trams, metro, ferries, and funiculars. The most convenient way to use public transport is with an Istanbulkart, a contactless smart card that can be used across all modes of transport.

Payment Methods: You can purchase and reload an Istanbulkart at vending machines, kiosks, and major transport hubs. The card can be topped up with cash or credit/debit cards. Each ride is deducted from your balance, and transfers between different types of transport are discounted within a 2-hour window.
